Plumbing, Tile & Doors

Our Washington Street project is flowing smoothly thanks to our new bathroom faucets and shower fitting (Moen from Rooster Home & Hardware) – plus the toilet (Crane from Habitat for Humanity ReStore), which was a great relief to all of us who have been working on the house. No more trips to Taco Bueno's bathroom!

Before we could install the tub fitting, Trevor finished up the tile around the bathtub and added a shelf at each corner. We are so pleased at the final result. What a difference just this simple tile accent makes. Great job, gang!

One of the most difficult tasks at this home has been preserving the original 1950's doors. It would have been much easier and probably less costly to simply donate the old doors and then replace them with new models – but we were determined to save these relics of days gone by. Each door had to be stripped of many layers of old paint, carefully cleaned and sanded, and then primed with Kilz® to seal in any small remnants of the original oil-based finish. Then one final sanding before a top-coat of Sherwin-Williams semi-gloss Pure White (SW7005).

Next week, we'll hang the doors and install the knobs and other hardware.
