The Demolition Phase

The house at 213 Washington just seemed like it was waiting for some TLC. On our first day of work, we soon knew that it was going to be a big job, beginning with demolition and cleanup.
We started our renovation by tearing out the cheap paneling and carpet in the living room, den and bedrooms. We were rewarded with a rich harvest including intact sheetrock walls and gorgeous oak floors. We stacked the paneling and other usable discards on the side of the home near the street. Within an hour, almost everything was picked up by various neighbors who had a use for the materials. That's the best kind of upcycling!
To cover some cracks on the ceiling, the previous homeowner had installed 1980's-era insulating foam squares. We removed them and gave them to a friend who was putting an audio studio in his home. Perfect! The hard part of that process was also removing the hundreds of staples on the ceiling.
All of the vintage mouldings and door knobs were carefully removed and stored for later reinstallation.
